Food & Beverage / QR Ordering · 1 week

Order from a QR code, pay the owner direct, skip the queue

Mr. Bean's – The Food Cart — 100% vegetarian street-food cart

Mr. Bean's – The Food Cart is a 100% vegetarian street-food cart in Chomu, Jaipur, serving grilled sandwiches, burgers, fries, Maggi, rolls and cold coffee under the line “Quick Bites. Big Delights.” It is run by one person, so every order used to be taken by voice while the food was being cooked. We built a QR ordering system in about a week: a mobile-first site that customers open from a code on the cart to order and pay from their own phone, and an owner dashboard that turns those orders into a live board, bills and daily sales.

The brief

What they needed.

  • Ordering from the customer's own phone, with no app and no login
  • Payment by UPI straight to the owner, or cash at the counter
  • A token number and wait time for every order
  • A live orders board the owner can run from a phone, tablet or laptop
  • Bills, sales reports and a menu the owner can change without reprinting anything

The challenges

One person, every job

Taking orders, cooking and handing food over all fell to the owner. Each order spoken across the counter meant a queue at busy times and food waiting while the next order was being heard.

Orders lost in translation

Verbal orders get misheard: the wrong add-on, a missed item, a note nobody wrote down. There was nothing written to check against.

No bills, no record

Without a bill for each order there was no record of what sold, what was paid by UPI or cash, or what was still due at the end of the day.

“How long?”

Customers had no way to see where their order was, so they asked, which pulled the owner away from the grill again.

Our solution

What we built.

We built a mobile-first ordering site that opens from a QR code on the cart, with no app and no login, and an owner dashboard behind it: a live orders board with a sound alert, a menu manager, bills, sales reports and settings, secured with passkeys.

A mobile-first ordering site that opens from a QR code on the cart Checkout with UPI to the owner's own UPI ID, or cash at the counter A token number and live countdown for every order An owner dashboard for live orders, the menu, bills, sales and settings Go-live on a custom domain with the real menu, photos and a printed QR card

QR ordering, no app

A menu with photos, search, categories, filters and best sellers; dish pages with add-ons; and a cart with cooking notes and suggestions, all in the phone's browser.

Direct UPI checkout

An exact-amount UPI QR and a GPay, PhonePe or Paytm button pay the owner's own UPI ID, with cash at the counter as the other option.

Live token and timer

Every order gets a token number and a countdown that updates by itself, so customers can see when their food will be ready without asking.

Digital bills

Each order gets a numbered bill with the FSSAI licence number, which customers can share on WhatsApp or download as a PDF.

Owner's live orders board

New orders arrive with a sound alert and move from Preparing to Ready to Delivered, with +5 min, “UPI/Cash received” and counter orders for walk-in customers.

Menu, sales and security

A menu manager with prices, photos and a sold-out switch; bills with search and filters; sales reports with CSV export; and passkeys (fingerprint or Face ID) to unlock settings and confirm deletes.

The impact

What the ordering system delivers.
